About us
The room behind the name
The Fringe Room started in 2019 as one rented room above a bank in Bangsar, doing ten minute fringe trims for office workers between meetings.
Since 2019
From one room to eight chairs
Melissa Yap opened the first room with two chairs, a borrowed basin and a diary that filled up through word of mouth. The fringe trim, ten minutes and RM 25, was the thing everyone came back for. It gave the studio its name.
In 2023 we moved down the hill to a proper shopfront on Jalan Bangsar Ria. The trims still anchor the diary, and the consultation still comes before the scissors, every single visit.

How we work
Three habits we refuse to drop
First, the consultation is unhurried and happens while your hair is still dry. Wet hair hides its real fall, so we look, ask questions and agree on a plan before the wash.
Second, quotes are settled before the gown goes on. If a colour correction needs more time than expected, we stop, explain and requote before carrying on. Nobody discovers a number at the till.
Third, we write down what we did. Formulas, timings, how your hair behaved. Your next visit starts from a record, not from memory.
Three stylists, one standard
Every stylist here trained on our consultation method for a year before taking their own column of bookings.
Melissa Yap
Founder and director
A decade in KL salons before opening her own room in 2019. Cuts by consultation only, and still does every first time fringe trim herself.
Harith Roslan
Senior stylist, colour
The colour lead. Balayage and gloss work planned around how often you can realistically return, so nothing grows out with a hard line.
Jo Lin Tan
Stylist
Precision short cuts and fringe maintenance. The stylist most likely to talk you out of a drastic change you might regret by Friday.
